Les Vélos de la Baie General Rental Terms and Conditions
- The renter is responsible for the bike and its accessories from the start of the rental.
- All bikes (E-bikes or mechanical bikes) are rented with the following accessories:
– a helmet, a vest, and a lock included in the price (the rental company is not liable for any damage if the renter refuses to take them)
– a basket, a pannier, a tag-along bike, a baby seat (up to 15 kg), a child trailer (up to 40 kg), or an optional phone holder
- The rental company must offer the renter a repair kit at the price indicated in the shop. If the renter refuses to rent this kit and gets a flat tire, a derailed chain, or if the rental company has to intervene and travel for repairs, the costs will be borne by the renter (price indicated in the shop). The renter must mention any work done on the bike upon return.
- All rentals are non-refundable.
- Minors must present a waiver signed by a responsible adult.
- E-bike rentals are exclusively reserved for persons over 14 years old and at least 1.50 m tall.
- An E-bike returned in the morning at opening must have a battery charged to 100%; otherwise, a fee equivalent to a half-day rental for that model will be charged.
- Any day started is payable in full.
- Any day reserved is payable in full.
- Day duration: 9 hours (morning to evening); beyond this, an additional half-day will be charged.
Inspection at pick-up/return:
- An inspection of the equipment will be carried out at the start and end of the rental.
- At pick-up, the rental company notifies the renter of any equipment defects, and the renter checks, adds comments if necessary, and signs the inspection report.
- Upon return, the rental company inspects the equipment to check for any damage.
Security Deposit:
- The renter will provide a deposit in cash or via credit card pre-authorization when taking possession of the bike (amount based on the scale in our price list and the category rented).
- The rental company will offer to lower the deposit amount if the renter takes out damage/theft insurance (see paragraph below).
- The deposit is not cashed during the rental period. The rental company reserves the right to hold the deposit for 24 hours.
- Upon return of the equipment and once the inspection is complete, the rental company returns the deposit to the renter, minus any damages. Deductions are made according to the price list for damaged or lost equipment displayed in the shop.
- The renter authorizes the rental company to deduct any sums due from the deposit.
- Any damage to the bike and/or accessories will be the responsibility of the renter.
- The rental company may hold the deposit for up to 24 hours after the end of the rental to identify any damage not reported by the renter upon return.
- The renter must provide routine maintenance for the bike.
- Repairs made outside the Les Vélos de la Baie shop will not be reimbursed, unless previously agreed upon by the rental company.
- Equipment must be returned clean. A cleaning fee will be charged if cleanliness standards are not met.
- The renter assumes full responsibility for the rented equipment and handles all disputes that may arise from this rental, as well as any breakage or theft of said equipment.
It is forbidden to:
- Ride on the beaches
- Ride up or down curbs on the bike
- Carry a person weighing more than 15 kg on the luggage rack
- Sublet
- Extend the rental period without prior agreement from the shop
In case of theft:
- In case of bike theft, an amount equivalent to the deposit will be retained as compensation according to the scale in our price list for the category rented.
- In case of theft: provide the shop with the original police report within 24 hours, issued by the gendarmerie or police services.
- The theft guarantee, if taken out by the renter when taking possession of the equipment, payable in advance and billed according to the conditions displayed in the shop, covers 10% of the bike's price; otherwise, 100% of the deposit will be cashed by the rental company in case of theft, according to the scale in our price list for the category rented.
In case of breakage:
- In case of bike breakage, an amount equivalent to the repair cost (up to the deposit amount) will be retained as compensation according to our price list (parts and labor included). Travel costs for intervention may also be added if the bike needs to be recovered or exchanged.
- In case of breakage occurring at a distance that prevents the rental company from intervening, the renter may, with the rental company's authorization, go to the nearest repair shop to have the bike fixed.
- The breakage guarantee, if taken out by the renter when taking possession of the equipment, payable in advance and billed according to the conditions displayed in the shop, covers 10% of the repair price; otherwise, up to 100% of the deposit will be cashed by the rental company in case of breakage, according to the scale in our price list for the category rented.
Insurance:
The rental company is insured in case of equipment failure. Any accident must be reported within 24 hours.
Booking:
All bookings are subject to full payment of the rental amount.
Cancellation:
- All cancellations must be made by email. The rental company reserves the right to provide a partial refund or no refund depending on the request date relative to the rental date.
- Request made 24h before: no refund except in cases of force majeure (illness, surgery, accident, etc.) affecting the future renter and justified by a medical certificate.
- Request made between 1 and 3 days: 50% refund of the rental.
- Request made between 4 and 7 days: 70% refund of the rental.
- Beyond 7 days, the full rental amount will be refunded.
Dispute:
For any dispute relating to the interpretation and execution of the rental, the parties grant exclusive jurisdiction to the court corresponding to the location of the company's registered office and its places of operation.
